There’s now doubt that Starpoints are among the most valuable rewards currencies around. You can, of course, redeem them for Starwood awards stays, but you can also transfer them to Marriott Rewards. Better yet? Transfer 25000 to participating airline programs, and receive a 5000 mile bonus. So when a great deal to earn more of them comes around, you take advantage of it if you can. So, warning: Amex SPG 35000 point bonus last chance.
The Offer
At the beginning of the month American Express launched a fantastic bonus: earn 35,000 Starpoints for spending $5000. That’s 25000 points for spending $3000 within the first 90 days of account opening. You then get another 10000 points for spending a further $2,000 within the first 6 months of account opening. Of course you still earn 1 Starpoint/$1 for normal purchases on top of the bonuses. So assuming you don’t make any spend at Starwood properties and you maximize the bonus, you’ll earn a total of 40000 Starpoints from this offer.
Of course, if you really maximize your spend and make all $5000 in purchase at Starwood or Marriott properties, you could earn a total of 45000 Starpoints. Cardholders receive 2 points per dollar spent at Starwood or Marriott properties around the world.
But in order to receive this offer, you must apply before it expires on April 5. And yes, SPG Amex does carry a $95 annual fee, but its waived for the first year.
Value
As I’ve said before, Starpoints are among the most valuable in the industry. They’re relatively difficult to earn and can be redeemed for free nights some pretty spectacular properties around the world. But, they can also be transferred to participating airline programs with a 25% bonus. As I also mentioned before, for every 20000 Starpoints you transfer, you’ll get 25,000 airline miles. And with this offer, you could easily get yourself 50000 airlines miles for simply spending $5000. That’s like earning 10 miles per $1 spent.
Amex SPG 35,000 Point Bonus Last Chance Final Thoughts
With Starwood set to be integrated into Marriott sometime in 2018, this could very well be the last Starpoint offer we ever see. That’s not to say Amex won’t have another one prior to any changes, but it may also not. Who know’s what will happen for sure, but this offer is already uncommon, so why take the chance. So if you don’t already have the Starwood Preferred Guest from American Express, now is the time to apply. Just make sure you do it before April 5th!
