Cairns, Australia may be better known as the gateway to the great barrier reef. While the location was once a vast rainforest, in recent years it has become a place for tourism, with much of the forests being replaced with attractions, hotels and other infrastructure. We spent two nights in Cairns in March of 2011, and took many pictures while enjoying the sights of the area.
While our favorite part of the city was visiting the Great Barrier Reef, we also enjoyed staying in the city itself, Hartley’s Crocodile Farm and the Aboriginal demonstration at Tjapukai.
The oddest thing I did on the trip? Eating Kangaroo! It was actually fairly tasty – much like eating Venison in the United States.
