Hawaii is a popular port of call for cruises. But, Disney Cruise Line has visited the islands only a handful of times. That, however, is changing soon as Disney Cruise Line returns to Hawaii.
Disney Cruise Line is often lauded as one of the best cruise lines in the world. But with only four ships (for now), Disney isn’t able to deploy their fleet to as many destinations as they’d like; which is probably why Disney Cruise Line came through Hawaii only a handful of times between 2012 (not long after Aulani opened) and 2015. Since 2015, though, Disney ships haven’t made a port call in the islands. That, of course, will change soon.
Disney Cruise Line Returns to Hawaii
According to Pacific Business News, Disney Cruise Line will return to Hawaii in 2020. However, the Line will offer only two Hawaiian sailings that year; a nine-night voyage from Vancouver, B.C., and Hawaii departing on April 29. The return trip, lasting ten nights, arrives back in Vancouver on May 8. Both voyages are scheduled to make stops on the Big Island, Maui, and Kauai too.
Operating Disney’s 2020 Hawaii itineraries is the 964-foot Disney Wonder. The Art Nouveau-styled Wonder is Disney’s second ship, with a maximum capacity of 2,713 passengers in 877 staterooms.
We don’t yet know if Disney will schedule any Hawaii cruises after its two 2020 voyages. However, the Line does have three more ships on order, so who knows? Though none of these have names yet, the three 140,000 gross-ton ships are the largest ever ordered by Disney. Their current largest ships are the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream, coming in at 130,000 gt. The first of these new ships will enter service in 2021.
Disney Cruise Line Returns to Hawaii, Final Thoughts
Disney’s return to Hawaii is great news! Not only is the return to Hawaii good for passengers, but it’s great for Hawaii’s economy too. So, hopefully, they’ll make regular port calls here beyond 2020. By the way, reservations for these voyages become available this month.
Personally, I’ve never been on a Disney Cruise before. I’d love to give them a try, especially on one of their newer, larger ships, but we’ll see. The Mrs. and I have never been on any cruise yet. Period. They’re quite expensive, especially with the lines we want to try, and even more so because we’d prefer having a balcony stateroom.
