Marriott has a few MegaBonus offers a year. A while back, these offers were fairly consistent. But lately, the offers have been varying quite a bit. And the Marriott Rewards MegaBonus Summer 2017 is quite different from the last one.
In the past Marriott Rewards MegaBonuses were often stay 4 nights, get a free category 1-4 certificate. But members, rightfully so, began complaining that the offers weren’t worth it. Category 1-4 certificates, after all, are fairly difficult to use in desirable places. In fact, they’re impossible to use here in Hawaii. But the Summer 2017 offer is quite different from those of the past and are, in my opinion, a step in the right direction.
MegaBonus Summer 2017
As the graphic says, Marriott Rewards members can ear up to 4,000 bonus points per stay. This, of course, depends on how much you actually stay with Marriott over the summer. The promotion will actually award members 2,000 points per stay beginning with your second stay. An additional 2,000 points will be awarded for each different brand you stay with, starting with your second brand. Marriott has only 18 brands (not including Starwood brands), so you could earn 4,000 bonus points for up to 17 different stays.
If you do end up staying at all 18 Marriott brands during the promotional period, you will continue to earn 2,000 bonus points each stay. Stays booked through third-party websites are not eligible for this offer.
The MegaBonus Summer 2017 runs from May 27, 2017 thru September 4, 2017. Members must register by August 30, 2017 to qualify for this promotion.
For what it’s worth, Hawaii is home to four different Marriott brands: Autograph Collection Hotels, Marriott, Courtyard, and Residence Inn.
SPG Take Three Promotion
While Starwood and Marriott have now merged, integration has not yet been completed. But SPG members aren’t being left out in the cold, as Starwood is running a promotion too. Beginning May 15, 2017, and running thru August 30, 2017, members will earn double Starpoints for stays of two nights or longer. But, time your stay over a weekend and you’ll earn triple Starpoints instead! These multipliers apply to base points only, so Elite members will earn 4 or 6 Starpoints per $1 spent, plus whatever normal bonuses they would earn.
If you’re a Amex Starwood Preferred Guest credit card holder, you can earn even more points. During the Take Three Promotion, cardholders that stay 2 nights or more at participating resorts will earn an additional 1,500 Starpoints. For a complete list of participating properties, visit: SPG Card 1.5k Bonus.
To qualify for both of these promotions, members will need to register by May 15, 2017. And remember, if you’ve linked your Starwood and Marriott Rewards accounts, you can transfer points back and for at a 1:3 ratio. So 1,500 Starpoints from the card offer convert into 4,500 Marriott Rewards points.
And in case your wondering but don’t want to look it up, all non-timeshare Starwood properties are participating in the Take Three and SPG Card 1.5k Bonus promotions.
MegaBonus Summer 2017 + SPG Take Three Final Thoughts
These promotions represent a great points earning opportunity. If you maximize the Marriott Rewards 17 brand bonus, you could earn 68,000 Marriott Rewards points just from that bonus. You could also earn an unlimited number of subsequent stay 2,000 point bonuses thru the end of the promotion. And if you decide to stay with Starwood, you can earn an automatic 1,500 Starpoints/4,500 Marriott Rewards points for just being an SPG cardholder. Not to mention, double or triple Starpoints on the stays themselves.
That being said, these aren’t promotions I’d likely go out of my way to take advantage of. But if I had a need to stay in hotels, I’d definitely give Marriott and Starwood properties priority. There’s great earning potential here, and for me anyway, these promotions are much more lucrative than the certificate MegaBonuses Marriott used to run.
