Pagan Vines Vineyard Accommodation Review

May 23, 2016 by jeffsetter

In my Where to Stay post, I mentioned Pagan Vines Vineyard Accommodation just outside of Queenstown. We stayed here after our nights at the Hilton Queenstown Resort.

Pagan Vines Vineyard Accommodation – Review Summary

We highly recommend staying here. This is really a great option for a family of four (or anyone who doesn’t mind sleeping in a twin bed).

We stayed for $140 USD a night and loved it. A longer stay and a favorable exchange rate gave us a great rate. (I think it is ~$200 NZD in the off season).

I am 90% sure I booked on vrbo.com. However, the property is no longer listed on the site. You can find it on airbnb.com, bookings.com and bedandbreakfast.eu.

This two bedroom cottage is self-contained with an open-floor plan and fully stocked kitchen (including an outdoor grill). You can enjoy amazing views of Gibbston Valley, the river and mountains on the patio or walking the trails around the property.

A car is a MUST for this location. Pagan Vines Vineyard Accommodation is located among the wineries between Queenstown and Cromwell in the Gibbston Valley. The closet grocery store is in Queenstown, so stop on your way out of town.

Detailed Review

The Property

The cottage is located at the Pagan Vines Vineyard.

The stand alone cottage is next to the owner’s residence, and has plenty of parking.

Our awesome rental car and the Pagan Vines Vineyard Accommodation

The cottage  is surrounded by the New Zealand Alps and vines. You can walk on a trail next to the river, or down to the base of the river for fishing.

You can even walk to bungee jumping on the famous Kawarau bridge.

The cover photo from yesterday’s post was taken from the trail next to the river.

Bike rentals are offered as well.

The owners were kind enough to give us two bottles of their wine as a welcome gift.

We enjoyed the Pinot Noir so much that we bought a couple of bottles. You can also walk/bike along a paved path to neighboring wineries.

The cottage is close to the owners residence. A wine barrel wall creates nice privacy wall for the cottage’s patio. Even though the two buildings are close together, the cottage feels private and peaceful.

As you can see we, were there in early spring so no one was working the vines yet. My guess is harvest season is bit less peaceful.

Staying in the cottage also gives you access to a great little outdoor area with a table and a fire pit.

This outdoor space is in addition to the patio attached to the cottage, which also has a propane grill.

The Accommodations

When you head into the cottage watch out for your friendly chicken neighbors that may want to checkout the place too.

The Master Bedroom

A comfortable queen bed sits in a tastefully decorated shabby chic room with plenty of light. The curtains are room darken, so you don’t have to worry about that gorgeous sunlight waking you up on vacation.

The Second Bedroom

Similarly decorated, the second bedroom has two twin beds with a great view. Our suit cases enjoyed the comfort of this room.

Roll-away beds and cribs are available upon request for an extra fee.

The Dining Room

The dining room table seats four comfortable and could seat 6 with some extra chairs.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is modern, small but functional. A dishwasher is located to the right of the sink (not pictured). The utensils, dishes, pots and pans are well maintained and look brand new. The knives were even sharp, so it didn’t feel like I was cutting a tomato with a spoon.

The Living Room

The open floor plan connects the kitchen to the dining room to the living room. I absolutely love how this place is decorated.

Pagan Vines Hotel Review-2131

In the living room, you can enjoy the view, a movie or some music (or really all three). After looking at the music selection, I announced to Mr. J that we could be friends with the hosts.

The comfy couches are on wheels, and can be arranged to enjoy the TV.

Added bonus, the floor through out the house is heated!!

If you have a nice day, the doors can be opened to extend the living space to the patio.

The Bathroom

Look at his curls, adorbs!

The bathroom is small, but comfortable with a  single vanity sink.

Next to the shower is a delightful little surprise – a washer and dryer. Plenty of extra towels are provided as well.

Recommendation

We would highly recommend staying here if you are renting a car. This cottage is especially nice if you are interested in staying in wine country. I wish I could find a place this nice an reasonable in California wine country.

You have easy access to the river, hiking, bungee jumping, wineries and skiing. It’s just a short drive to the local towns Queenstown, Arrowtown (adorable) and Cromwell.

Pagan Vines Vineyard Accommodation felt like home with all its comforts. Mr. J loved the scenery for his photography. We even took out Drone for a spin.

You should stay here if you have the opportunity.
