This weekend will be action packed for Jeffsetter, as I attend my first ever Frequent Traveler University (FTU) Event in McLean, VA. While this location happens to be a little far out from the District of DC, it’s always fun to come back to the area.
Here’s how the weekend schedule is shaping up:
Thursday Night – The Freddie Awards
I have been reading about the Freddie awards for years, but I thought it would be another few years before I ever attended them. That all changed when the Points Guy announced his contest to join him at the 2013 Freddie Awards. I entered on Facebook among 60+ people competing for 6 seats and amazingly, I was among those chosen!
I am actually writing this message about an hour before I head out to the awards ceremony. Should be a lot of fun. A full write-up will come, but for now I’ll let you go to the site/see a photo of the shenanigans from last year

Friday Night – Sunday Night – Frequent Traveler University
Part conference, part time to socialize with other frequent travelers. It will be a great experience for me to share a setting with many people who share my same interests. I think this will be such a fantastic opportunity to meet others in the industry that I am glad that I bit the bullet and signed up for the conference earlier this year, especially because it sold out months ago.

Bonus: Sunday Afternoon – Launchpoint
As another unexpected bonus out of many unexpected bonuses this weekend, I will also be participating in Launchpoint, a travel startup idea competition that will be awarding $50,000 in prizes to worthy startups in the travel industry. My business idea, Free World Traveler, made the list of 10 startups that will pitch at Launchpoint. I am absolutely ecstatic about sharing my idea with the crowd, because the immediate feedback will be invaluable as to whether the idea has legs or not. That and the feedback received can either prove I’m on the right path or help me give up before I get too far down a path that I shouldn’t. Not many business ideas get that level of feedback, that soon into their existence.
This is Happening
I think that after this event is done, Jeffsetter will become more “real” to myself and others in the industry. I am excited to meet others who I have followed for the past few years and even more people who I have not met yet. Hope to meet many of you at the conference!
