Hawaiian Airlines Moana Livery

October 17, 2016 by Island Miler

Hawaiian Airlines is teaming up with Disney for a special livery!  The upcoming Disney Pixar movie, Moana, features two local talents: Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and Kamehameha Schools graduate Auli’i Carvalho.  Both of them, in fact, were on hand the other day for the special occasion.  In a special unveiling on Saturday, Hawaiian Airlines Moana livery made its debut on one of it’s Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

Hawaiian Airlines today revealed the first of three “Moana”-themed planes at its home base at Honolulu International Airport (HNL). Auli‘i Cravalho, the Hawai’i-born actress who is the voice of Disney’s “Moana,” and Dwayne Johnson, the voice of demigod Maui, were among the first to see the inspiring new design. According to Hawaiian Airlines, this first aircraft is the first of three that will be themed for the movie.  The special livery includes, not only exterior decals, but also interior decals.

Personally, I’m not a fan of the interior decal.  I don’t know what it is.  It just feels a little out of place perhaps?  The exterior every, on the other hand, looks pretty great.

I think it’s kind of funny how the decal makes the characters look like they’re flying on the wing.  They could have done without the “Moana” decal on the engine nacelles, though.

The partnership goes beyond just the livery, though.  Hawaiian is also selling a line of Moana themed apparel.  They’re even holding a contest to attend the movie’s premier in Los Angeles.  Grand prize includes coach class tickets for two, hotel accommodations, and tickets to the premier.  One first place winner will receive 80,000 HawaiianMiles, while two second place winners will receive Moana + Hawaiian Airlines apparel packs.

At any rate, it’s nice to see Hawaiian Airlines with a special livery.  It’s their first as far as I can remember, and I’m glad Disney chose Hawaiian to partner with.  The connection with the South Pacific and the fact that both main talents are from Hawaii makes the matchup all the more logical.  Oh, and if you want to track the aircraft, its registration number is N392HA.
