The Jeffsetter’s are in Bora Bora right now and our Internet connection is spotty. So we are going back to July to post about one of Mrs. Jeffsetter’s adventures while I was attending a conference.
As you know Jeff attended a conference in Seattle last month and left me to my own devices. He wanted to create a cartoon image for me to add to my profile for the website.
I have one!!
Jeff’s response:
I am not using that. You need a good one.
What? This is perfect for the following reasons.
- It looks like me.
- My shirt is amazing and is obviously sarcastic (like me).
- I am holding my favorite food.
- My pet dragon Rangoon is with me (the only animal that matched my personality). He is named Rangoon because like Crab Rangoon he is abrasive and meh on the outside, but on the inside, he is soft and wonderful with just a bit of sweetness.
Mission accomplished, now off to see a bit of Seattle. (Note, I lost the battle of the avatars as you can see by the header.)
Prior to this trip, the only time I spent in Seattle was for a client meeting. Thus, most of my time was at the client or the W Hotel.
This time my parents met us in Seattle. My mom loves art and dabbles a bit with watercolors and pastels. She requested that we visit the Chihuly museum. So, we jumped on the monorail (built for the 1962 world’s fair) and headed over to the Chihuly Garden.
For those who don’t already know, Chihuly, a Tacoma native, is an artist working mostly with glass. The Chihuly Glass and Garden is located next to the Space Needle and contains several of his large-scale installations.
The museum has exhibits both inside and outside and encourages patrons to take photos. I did not think that cameras would be allowed so I just had my trusty iPhone along. My pictures do not do the scale of the installations any justice.
His works are pretty impressive. The videos are worth watching because they show how and why some of these installations were first created. For example, many of the pieces are from an installation he did originally in Venice.
Tickets to the exhibit can be purchased online at a discount. You can also purchase a combo ticket to see Chihuly and go up in the Space Needle.
I recommend taking a stroll through the museum if you have some time.
If seeing amazing glass sculptures is not your thing, perhaps you can catch a nude bike race through Seattle. There happened to be one of those during our July visit as well.
Who won? Aren’t we all winners when it’s naked people on bikes?!
I will just leave on that note.
What is the best time of year/season to be in Bora Bora?
I have only been in August. It is windy, but beautiful. I was told by our hosts at the Le Cursoe that May and June or Sepember and October are the best months after October “rainy” season starts.
