May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii Nei! While the rest of the world celebrates May Day on May 1, we in Hawaii celebrate Lei Day. Oahu is home to the largest Lei Day celebration, the Annual Lei Day Celebration, at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki. The event includes lot’s of entertainments, exhibits, and a lei contest. To join in the celebration, Hawaii’s largest airline is having a special contest: the Hawaiian Air Lei Day Giveaway click here to enter.
One lucky winner will receive 140,000 HawaiianMiles. This is enough miles to fly from any city in the US that is served by Hawaiian to the islands. Enter the contest by clicking the link above and scrolling down through the “Little Known 5 Lei Facts.” This is actually stuff most kama’aina know, but are really good tips nonetheless. Entrants may enter only once with the entry period ending on May 31st at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time. The drawing will be held on or around June 6, 2016.
As a reminder, Hawaiian Air charges 40,000 HawaiianMiles for Coach SuperSaver roundtrip award flights, right on up to 160,000 HawaiianMiles for First Class Flex roundtrip award flights. So 140,000 HawaiianMiles is a pretty good amount! or, you could get the Barclay’s HawaiianMiles World Elite MasterCard with a 35,000 mile signup bonus.
The bonus is really easy to get with just $1,000 minimum spend in 90 days, but as I’ve said before, the ongoing value of the card is not so good. This is especially true if you aren’t a regular visitor to the islands.
At any rate, 140,000 miles is 140,000 miles. You don’t even have to use it on Hawaiian Air. You can also redeem HawaiianMiles with All Nippon Airways, Korean Air, JetBlue, Virgin America, Virgin Atlantic, and Virgin Australia.
