The HawaiianMiles Transfer Bonus Offer

American Express is currently running a transfer bonus promotion with transfer partner Hawaiian Airlines.  From June 7, 2017, through June 21, 2017, Membership Rewards points transferred to HawaiianMiles will receive a 25% bonus.  The minimum transfer amount is 1,000 points.  And since the normal transfer ratio is 1:1, 1,000 Membership Rewards points will get you 1,250 HawaiianMiles under the current transfer promotion.

Transferring Points

To transfer Membership Rewards points, you’ll need to login to your American Express account.  Once logged in, you’ll want to select Membership Rewards.  From there, you’ll then select Travel and then “Get Started” under “Transfer Points.”  You may then select “Hawaiian Airlines.”

If not already linked, you’ll need to link your HawaiianMiles account with your Membership rewards points.  To do so, you’ll need both security codes on your American Express card plus your HawaiianMiles membership number.  Linking happens instantly, and you’ll be able to begin transferring right away.

It’s important to note, however, that unlike Chase, American Express does charge tax for transferring your points.  The tax for transferring points to HawaiianMiles is $0.0006, or $0.60 for every 1,000 points transferred.  A maximum tax payment of $99 applies, which is the amount of tax you’d pay to transfer 165,000 Membership Rewards points.

How Far HawaiianMiles Will Get You

I’ve covered the subject of Hawaiian Airlines award travel before.  But as a quick recap:

  • Hawaii – U.S. Mainland: 40,000 miles RT coach supersaver, 80,000 miles RT first class saver
  • Hawaii – Japan/Australia/New Zealand/China/Korea: 80,000 miles RT coach supersaver, 140,000 miles RT first class saver
  • Hawaii – South Pacific: 55,000 RT coach supersaver, 95,000 RT first class saver
  • U.S. Mainland – Japan/Australia/New Zealand/China/Korea: 120,000 miles RT coach supersaver, 210,000 RT first class saver
  • U.S. Mainland – South Pacific: 95,000 miles RT coach supersaver, 175,000 RT first class

HawaiianMiles Transfer Bonus Final Thoughts

A 25% transfer bonus is always a great thing to get.  And while, yes, you can always receive a 25% bonus when transferring 20,000 SPG points to HawaiianMiles, SPG points are more difficult to earn than Membership Rewards points.  For example, with the American Express EveryDay Preferred card, you earn 3x points at grocery stores/supermarkets, 2x points at gas stations, and 1x on all other spend on.  And those figures go up by 50% if you make at least 30 transactions during your billing cycle.  SPG points?  Well, you earn 2x points when you use your card at Starwood properties and 1x point on all other spend.

Unfortunately, if you don’t already have a Membership Rewards earning card, you won’t be able to take advantage of this promotion.  But if your goal is to earn HawaiianMiles regardless of any promotions, I still think the American Express EveryDay Preferred card is the quickest way to earn HawaiianMiles.
