As the airline prepares to celebrate its centennial, Delta unveils new cabin interiors, which it says will be installed across its entire fleet. However, it’s worth pointing out that this is more of a refresh than an all-new experience. The existing seats will remain, though they are getting some love.
Hot take: Delta’s interiors are getting a bit long in the tooth. Back in 2018, I flew Delta for the first and only time thus far, and even back I thought that their interiors were dated. Granted, it was onboard a non-Delta One Boeing 767, but still. At any rate, they’re doing something about it now, as Delta unveils new cabin interiors, which they’ll be rolling out across their entire fleet.
Delta Unveils New Cabin Interiors
Delta Air Lins was founded on March 2, 1925, which means they’re on the verge of turning 100 years old. That makes the the oldest surviving airline in the U.S. At any rate, in celebration of this milestone, the airline is going to be refreshing its entire fleet. Actually, they announced that they’d be doing so a while ago, and then nothing. However, now Delta unveils new cabin interiors, finally giving us a look at what their above the wing travel experience will look like.
Today, Delta’s interior colors are a lighter blue color, red, and grey. Moving forward, they’re switching to a more “premium” color palette based on their brand colors. That means darker blues and red, along with the standard gray/white plastics for sidewalls and overhead bins. However, while newer aircraft have mood lighting already, this feature will be rolled out across the entire fleet.

While updated looks are great, what I’m sure everyone wants to know as Delta unveils new cabin interiors is whether the seats will be comfortable or not. Well, the “new” seats are their current seats. Delta will simply refresh them with new covers and, under certain circumstances, new cushions. These new cushions will be featured on widebody aircraft and will be composed of memory foam. The seat covers will be made of “engineered leather,” which is supposedly more breathable than traditional leather, and will be featured on Main Cabin, Comfort+, and Premium Select seats, while Delta One receives a wool and nylon blend with engineered leather headrests.

Surprisingly, the changes don’t stop at just the seats and lighting. As Delta unveils new cabin interiors, we also learn that they’re redesigning their lavatories, too. Naturally, they’ll still be small as hell. But, the new design does look nice.

Deployment
While it’s exciting that Delta unveils new cabin interiors, as it often is with any airline, the next question often is when will we see these in the wild. Well, this is Delta we’re talking about here, so I’m sure fleet-wide deployment will take YEARS. And, indeed, Delta states that their aircraft will be outfitted with the updated interiors as their “schedule and operation allows over the next few years.”
That said, the first aircraft will receive the new cabin designs soon. Specifically, a Boeing 757 will begin flying with the new interior “this fall” on domestic and short-haul international routes. This aircraft will then be followed by a singular Airbus A350 in “early 2025.”
Final Thoughts
Honestly, I think the new Delta interiors look great. Yeah, they’re not all new seats, but that’s not always a good thing, either. And for premium passengers, it’s not like Delta needs a replacement for Delta One yet. At least, not the newest iteration of it. However, I do find it interesting that Delta is choosing to refresh its Boeing 757s, as it’s a type that’s quickly becoming rarer these days. Of course, Delta’s replacement – the Boeing 737 MAX10 – has no firm delivery or even certification date as of yet.
At any rate, what do you all think about Delta’s new cabins?
