European travel was available for less than $1,000 last month and appears to be back again for two Skyteam Alliance members. Both Alitalia and Delta have sent emails announcing that similar deals are available if you can book by November 27th.
For the Alitalia deals, origins appear to be from East coast cities in the US and fly to a variety of large cities in Italy. For those coming from the Midwest and west, expect to pay extra to get to these cities, or use frequent flyer miles.
The Delta deal has a more generous list of departure cities in the US, including my home airport of MSP, but it doesn’t appear to be that great of a deal, with very few flights priced under $1,000 on the list. In fact, these prices seem to pretty much be standard prices to go to these cities on Delta, so I’m not even sure it’s fair to call this savings.
Are These Good Deals?
If you already have plans to go to Italy in Q1 of 2013, this would be a good time to buy your ticket. With a variety of destinations available, the price is right. If you are a tourist, then you probably should not go to Italy during the cold winter, especially after Christmas season is over. Wait until warmer times.
The Delta “deal” just appears to be their everyday pricing, so I am not sure it’s worthwhile to pursue this deal unless you are already planning to travel to the UK or France in Q1.
