The holiday season is all about giving. But, typically, during this time of year, we often think solely of giving to friends of family. However, non-profits still need our help, too. But this year, you can get Rapid Rewards points for giving to participating Hawaii-based charities, including some of my favorites.
I know most of us don’t blatantly overlook giving to charities during the holidays, but this time of year can be the most difficult for nonprofits. And I get it – I have extremely limited disposable income, so it’s difficult to split my available monies between priorities and giving, though I do try. Remember, every little bit counts! However, now you can get a little something for your donations; specifically, you can get Rapid Rewards points for giving to your favorite Hawaii-based non-profits.
Get Rapid Rewards Points for Giving
This year, Southwest Airlines is partner with Give Big Hawaii to raise funds for participating Hawaii nonprofits. Specifically, Southwest will give you one Rapid Rewards point for every dollar you donate. A minimum donation amount of $25 applies, with a maximum of $10,000. Points will post to your account in roughly eight weeks. It’s also worth noting that donors will be charged a “partner fee” to help offset the cost of running Give Big Hawaii, though all donors will also receive a complimentary one-year digital subscription to Honolulu Magazine.
There are 85 organizations participating this year, a full list of which can be found at givebighawaii.com. Of these, the following are some of my favorite local charities:
- Aloha Harvest
- Aloha United Way
- Big Brother Big Sister Hawaii
- Domestic Violence Action Center
- Hawaii Foodbank
- Hawaii Environmental Restoration
- Hawaii Habitat for Humanity
- Hawaiian Historical Society
- Hawaiian Humane Society
- Historic Hawaii Foundation
- Kauai Forest Bird Recovery Project
- Kauai Food Bank
- Maui Nui Marine Resource Council
Of course, there are a lot of great nonprofits participating in Give Big Hawaii that I didn’t list, so I urge you to check them all out. Needless to say, there are also other fantastic nonprofits that aren’t participating in this program, such as A’ala Project, Friends of Hakalau Forest, Hawaiian Railway Society, and Maui Forest Bird Recovery, among others.
Final Thoughts
Will you Get Rapid Rewards points for giving to Hawaii charities? If you do, just remember that you have to donate a minimum of $25. Mind you, this would be $25 minimum per charity, and individual charities will verify your donation so that you may receive your points. However, you can only receive a maximum of 10,000 points, regardless of how many different organizations you donate to. And, no, these points won’t count towards status. Nevertheless, if you are in a position to give, I urge you to do so – getting Rapid Rewards points in return is just a nice bonus.
Oh, and, this offer is only valid through January 1, 2024.
