Hawaiian Airlines typically bulks up its West Coast schedule during the colder months of the year. This year, the Hawaiian Air Winter 2024 schedule is no different and will feature several seasonal routes up and down the West Coast.
The airline of Hawai’i still has to make use of its fleet outside of its usual pre-COVID uses. That’s because markets like Japan and Australia have yet to recover from the dips in demand we saw after the pandemic slammed everything shut. As such, we’ve seen Hawaiian bulking up its domestic routes to make use of its fleet. For the colder months, that means additional frequencies in the Hawaiian Air 2024 schedule all up and down the coast.
Hawaiian Air Winter 2024 Schedule
The Hawaiian Air winter 2024 schedule is actually split into two different blocks. The first encompasses just a few days in November and includes flights between Honolulu and both Seattle and San Francisco. Moreover, these flights are all redeye flights operating as follows:
Seattle
- HA28 HNL-SEA operates 11/22-11/25 and 11/30-12/1, departing HNL at 9:30 pm and arriving in SEA at 5:15 am
- HA27 SEA-HNL operates 11/23-11/26 and 12/1-12/2, departing SEA at 7 am and arriving in HNL at 11:10 am
San Francisco
- HA54 HNL-SFO operates 11/22-11/25 and 11/30-12/1, departing HNL at 10 pm and arriving in SFO at 5:05 am
- HA53 SFO-HNL operates 11/23-11/26 and 12/1-12/2, departing SFO at 7:05 am and arriving in HNL at 10:45 am
For the second half of the Hawaiian Air Winter 2024 schedule, Los Angeles joins the above destinations, though its seasonal flight isn’t a redeye on, as the three regularly scheduled flights already include one. As such, the Los Angeles flights all operate on the same days, unlike with the SEA and SFO ones.
Los Angeles
- HA78 operates 12/19-12/21, 12/26-12/28, and 1/2-1/6, departing at 10:10 am and arriving at 5:35 pm
- HA77 departs LAX at 7:15 pm and arrives back at 11:15 pm
Seattle
- HA28 HNL-SEA operates 12/15-1/6 except for 12/24, departing HNL at 9:25 pm and arriving in SEA at 5:10 am
- HA27 SEA-HNL operates 12/16-1/7 except for 12/25, departing SEA at 7 am and arriving in HNL at 11:15 am
San Francisco
- HA54 HNL-SFO operates 12/15-1/6 except for 12/24, departing HNL at 10 pm and arriving in SFO at 5:15 am
- HA53 SFO-HNL operates 12/16-1/7 except for 12/25, departing SFO at 7:00 am and arriving in HNL at 10:45 am
The Airbus A321neo will operate the November Seattle flights, while the San Francisco flights get the larger A330. However, once we get to the second set of the Hawaiian Air Winter 2024 schedule flights, SFO gets down-gauged to the A321neo, and the LAX frequencies receive the A330. But, you know what’s interesting? In its press release, Hawaiian states that these flights will all feature Starlink WiFi. Either they’re banking on being able to assign equipped frames to these flights, or they’re confident that they’ll finish their installation earlier than their initial estimate of “by the end of 2024.”
Final Thoughts
With travel demand to Hawai’i remaining soft this year, especially from the Continental U.S., I wonder how much good bulking up these routes will do? Plus, the on-again, off-again schedule seems a bit odd to me, especially when considering that the second flight between Honolulu and Seattle would run daily, including on Christmas Eve and Day, and would operate with an A330. I mean, that flight was a daytime flight, and I could see how a redeye flight on these days wouldn’t be great. But, still. In fact, I flew home from Seattle on Christmas Day 2017 on HA27.
Of course, these flights will be occurring during a very interesting time for the airline. After all, Hawaiian could be integrating into Alaska Air by this point. Or not. we’ll see. We’ll find out whether or not the DOJ tries to block the merger in less than two weeks.
