I thought that the fog in San Francisco was just a summer thing. But it seems to come just about any time of the year off of the San Francisco bay.
This photo, from January 13, 2015 shows the fog rolling into San Francisco at Sunrise. Notice that only one skyscraper peeks out through the fog, while the rest of the city is covered in darkness.
3 exposures were used to take this photo, and they were merged in Photomatix. I desaturated the shadows (the city in this case) to provide a black and white vs. the emerging sun effect.
