Need for Speed Views Along the Sonoma Coast

Sonoma Coast Rocky View

I thought that the movie Need for Speed was just like any other airplane movie. You know, the kind of movie that you start watching, fall asleep halfway through and then wake up a few hours later and say to yourself “it must not have been that good.”

It turns out that I loved that movie, especially because of the locations where it was filmed in both San Francisco and up the Pacific coast. Since seeing that movie, I say to Amanda “is this where they had that race scene in Need for Speed?” and every time we are not sure.

The epic race scene was filmed in Mendocino County, with much of it along Highway 1. I can see why the producers chose this location, because it is gorgeous.

I am still working on processing my photos from our recent trip to the Mendocino coast, so today I am just going to share two of my favorites. The cover photo is actually from the Sonoma coast. A beautiful stretch of road about 10 miles north of Bodega bay on Highway 1. This might be the most beautiful (and scary) drive of the entire highway 1. You go high, you go low, and you turn constantly throughout.

The second photo is from Moat Creek Beach in Mendocino, which is near the famous bowling ball beach. While I would have loved to photograph bowling ball beach, the tide was too high to see the rocks. This was a nice consolation prize, though.
