Hyatt Centric Waikiki is Opening on December 8

The Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach, as previously reported, is the first Hyatt Centric property in Hawaii.  The property’s page initially listed the opening date as “Winter 2016.”  Reservations then opened up for March 15, 2017, and beyond last month.  Now we’ve learned that the Hyatt Centric Waikiki is Opening on December 8, 2016.

The new opening date was reported in an article by the Pacific Business News a few days ago.  That being said, Hyatt’s website is currently only showing availability from February 1, 2017, and onward.  Hyatt Gold Passport award stays also continue to remain unavailable at this time.  I did reach out to @hyattconcierge via Twitter, and they stated that award stays are available, but provided no explanation for the lack of availability on the website.  I’ll be giving Hyatt’s reservation line a call to see if I can get some clarification there.  E-mails to the property regarding award stays have gone unanswered.

Nightly rates on publicly available dates are consistently pricing at $297/night and up.  This lowest prices reflect Hyatt Gold Passport member pricing for standard “king rooms.”  Unfortunately, that doesn’t get you rooms with the view or bathroom shown above.  But the rooms are nicely sized, and the Hyatt Centric Waikiki is just steps away from the new International Market Place.  What it isn’t next to, however, is the beach, despite the name.

The property is actually fronting Kuhio Ave.  The closes beach, which front’s the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, is a 5 to 10 minute walk away.  But, the Hyatt Centric’s central location will likely be a selling point for the property.  Tons of excellent shopping and dining will all be within easy reach, as is a bus stop.

I, for one, can’t wait for this fantastic looking property to open.  The Hyatt Centric is taking the place of an old office building, so I don’t think a halfhearted renovation of a dilapidated hotel is really an issue here.  My only gripe is the unavailability of award stays, though I’m confident this issue will be cleared up in time.
