I was trying to figure out a way to get a picture of the sun setting on the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, but alas that just didn’t seem possible without a boat. Instead I had to settle for seeing the sun shine through both the base span of the bridge, as well as some beautiful flowers currently in bloom. I quite like the result.
There are many places to watch the sunset on the Golden Gate Bridge, but this might be the most convenient when you don’t have a car available. I took hundreds of shots of the golden hour on the bridge, and can’t wait to post more of them once I finish processing.

Great shot! For between the pillars of the bridge, what about from Berkeley, along the Bay, somewhere between the outcropping in Emeryville and the Berkeley Marina? There’s a little park between the freeway and the water that looks straight out to the Golden Gate. https://goo.gl/maps/0U6dz
You can use Google Earth to figure out the sunset angle/location – looks like early November and early Feb is when sun sets right there.
Now you just have to do it when there’s no fog…

Thanks for the awesome info, Doug. I have thought about catching the sunset from Berkeley or Angel Island, but just haven’t planned far enough ahead. This info definitely helps. And yes, catching a day without fog may be the hardest part of all.
