It’s that time again. The 11th annual Restaurant Week Hawaii 2018 kicks off tomorrow!
An Evolving Mission
Eleven years ago, Restaurant Week Hawaii was launched to help fund the construction of an advanced culinary campus – the Culinary Institute of the Pacific (CIP) at Diamond Head. And, last year, Phase One of the CIP opened. But the work isn’t done yet. Phase Two, which includes a signature restaurant, competition auditorium, teaching laboratories, classrooms, and offices, is now out to bid. So, let’s raise a fork once again, eat some great food, and help complete the CIP.
Unfortunately, though, Restaurant Week Hawaii 2018 does carry a somber tone along with it. You see, earlier this year, Conrad Nonaka, Director of the CIP passed away. But he wasn’t just the director of the CIP. Conrad is the visionary behind the institute. So, in his honor, Alan Wong developed a special menu for Restaurant Week Hawaii 2018, featuring dishes Conrad loved or was known for.

Details
This year, Restaurant Week Hawaii runs from Friday, November 9, to Sunday, November 18. And, participating this year are sixty-four restaurants across the island of Oahu! That’s a lot of different options, much to many to try them all. For a complete list of restaurants and their menus, visit Restaurant Week Hawaii’s website.
Restaurant Week Hawaii 2018, Final Thoughts
I love Restaurant Week Hawaii, as it gives us an excuse to dine out and it supports a great cause. However, participating restaurants can be hit or miss. In fact, on some occasions, Mrs. Island Miler and I have left restaurants starving. But if you want a reliably great meal, might I suggest checking out participants like PAI Honolulu, Arancino at the Kahala, Senia, Alan Wong’s, or 53 by the Sea, among others. Heck, you could even check out someplace like Kona Coffee Purveyors just for dessert. Just don’t go to Nobu’s Honolulu. Their menu so wasn’t worth the money.
No matter where you decide to dine, though, don’t forget to use your Amex Gold card or Chase Sapphire Reserve to pay!
