Normally my photo of the week highlights a photo taken several weeks/months/years ago. Today I am doing things differently by posting a photo that I literally took 5 minutes before I entered this coffee shop to get onto the Internet. Hot off the presses from Budapest!
My main reason for posting this particular photo? Because I feel guilty that I have been in Hungary for 4 nights without giving an update to my loyal readers and casual observers aside from how I booked the trip. My connection to the Internet in Hungary has been among the worst that I have experienced in the last several years. I finally resorted from camping out in a Starbucks in order to take advantage of the free Internet while sipping on a Grande Americano. Love or hate Starbucks, their Internet connection speed alone makes the green and white logo a beacon of hope for the web weary.
The other reason why I have been slow to post photos? Because the weather has not cooperated with me. My first 3 nights on Galyatető mountain were shrouded in fog so thick that it was nearly impossible to take a photo of the hotel itself, let alone the mountain where I was stationed. Now I am in Budapest with overcast skies (makes for drab photos) and imminent snow (which will hopefully make for amazing photos of the Chain Bridge). Needless to say, I have not had many visuals to post thus far.
Then I came upon Szent István Bazilika and had to share an image with you.
This particular photo is aided heavily by Instagram, which worked a miracle to make this photo pop on the screen despite the lack of color in the sky. My favorite part? That the basilica fits into a perfectly square photo frame, making it the most Instagrammable (made up word) cathedral in all of Europe the World (made up fact).
For those who like to peek behind the curtain, here is what the photo looks like without the aid of contrast and color filters.

Really liked the ‘before and after’, Jeff. I just walked past on my way back to base tonight. The Basilica was looking great, lit up at night.

Thanks Tim I ended up walking about 2 hours in the cold after the boat ride to take some photos. Will send a few your way when I get them cleaned up.

Thanks, Jeff. I’ve subscribed to the blog in Feedly. I really like it. Keep on posting!
