Fiji Airways Orders Boeing 737 Max 8

November 28, 2016 by Island Miler

Hawaiian Airlines is the airline that gets the most attention of the Pacific Island based airlines.  The airline has been growing (and retracting and growing again) for the past few years.  And, it's currently in the process of reinventing itself with a new business class cabin and more.  But I think another Pacific Island based airline deserves attention too: Fiji Airways.  In … [Read more...] about Fiji Airways Orders Boeing 737 Max 8

Hawaiian Air’s Moana Aircraft

November 21, 2016 by Island Miler

The other month Hawaiian Airlines announced its first ever partnership with Disney.  The partnership makes Hawaiian Disney's airline partner in promoting its new movie: Moana.  And of course, the pair-up is a natural fit, as the two stars of the show, Auli'i Cravahlo and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, are both from Hawaii.  At the time of the announcement, Hawaiian stated that … [Read more...] about Hawaiian Air’s Moana Aircraft

Hawaiian’s New Uniforms & Island Air Bag Fees

November 16, 2016 by Island Miler

Hawaiian's New Uniforms Hawaiian Airlines has been on a bit of a evolution lately.  The airline recently introduced its first lie-flat premium product, its first premium lounge, and is changing up its catering.  They've been rumored to be undertaking a rebranding initiative too, which may include a new livery.  But for now, the next change we'll see on-board our Hawaiian Air … [Read more...] about Hawaiian’s New Uniforms & Island Air Bag Fees

Hawaiian Air Partners with Korean Celebrity Chef

November 10, 2016 by Island Miler

Hawaiian Airlines prides itself on being the airline of Hawaii.  The airline prides itself on providing local hospitality wherever it flies.  Part of this philosophy, according to CEO Mark Dunkerley, is catering.  Food is an important part of local culture, which is why the airline always continued to offer complimentary meals in all classes of service.  But in recent years, … [Read more...] about Hawaiian Air Partners with Korean Celebrity Chef

Hawaiian is resuming service to Kapalua

Last week Hawaiian Airlines made an announcement.  The announcement was for a new route, sort of.  Hawaiian is resuming service to Kapalua Airport on Maui. Hawaiian's Kapalua service will be operated by its commuter airline subsidiary, Ohana by Hawaiian.  Flights are scheduled to begin on January 18, 2017, and will be operated by the airline's 48-seat ATR 42-500s. … [Read more...] about Hawaiian is Resuming Service to Kapalua

Feds Want Airlines to Pay Up for Delayed Bags

October 20, 2016 by Island Miler

According to a recent Bloomberg article, the Feds want airlines to pay up for delayed bags.  This fee refund is part of a set of proposed new rules.  The aim is to make travel more fair by requiring airlines to refund checked bag fees if bags are significantly delayed.  What "significantly delayed" means is anyone's best guess. According to Transportation Secretary … [Read more...] about Feds Want Airlines to Pay Up for Delayed Bags

Hawaiian Air Lie-Flat Seats are Now Bookable

October 6, 2016 by Island Miler

Back in May, Hawaiian Airlines revealed its new business class products.  For the first time in the Airline's history they'd be offering lie-flat seats.  While new for Hawaiian, lie-flat seats are nothing new.  But, since Hawaiian primarily serves leisure travelers, it's understandable that they'd take their time deciding.  And over the past couple of months they slowly began … [Read more...] about Hawaiian Air Lie-Flat Seats are Now Bookable

All Nippon Airways A380 Design Contest

October 4, 2016 by Island Miler

In January 2015, Skymark Airline, a Japanese low-cost carrier filed for bankruptcy.  Skymark had four Airbus A380s on order at the time, two of which were already completely assembled.  The airline received a number of sponsor plans, the leading of which were from Delta and All Nippon Airways (ANA).  Many thought that Delta would win, as they have a cosy relationship with … [Read more...] about All Nippon Airways A380 Design Contest

Kids Try 100 Years of Airline Food

September 30, 2016 by Island Miler

I saw this video on Bon Appetit's YouTube page: Kids Try 100 Years of Airline Food. I thought it was an entertaining, though somewhat questionable video.  The first two "meals" are questionable at best in my opinion.  They aren't really "airline food," as they were eaten by pioneers, not passengers.  And is that really sparkling wine that they're serving the kids? The … [Read more...] about Kids Try 100 Years of Airline Food

Hawaiian Considering London Flights and A380s

Hawaiian Considering London Flights and A380s

Hawaiian Airlines' CEO Mark Dunkerley dropped some shocking news yesterday in an interview with Bloomberg.  In short, Hawaiian considering London flights and A380s! Ok, so flights to London aren't really a shocker.  They've been on Hawaiian's radar for some time now.  Unfortunately, Hawaiian's current fleet of A330-200's don't have the legs to fly the route non-stop.  In the … [Read more...] about Hawaiian Considering London Flights and A380s
