Oahu North Shore Eats Part II

November 17, 2016 by Island Miler

The other day I discussed some of my favorite Oahu North Shore dining discoveries.  Those where the places the wife and I decided to checkout while on our Turtle Bay staycation.  We really didn't want to pay the exorbitant prices at Turtle Bay's dining establishment.  And yes, I know resorts are always expensive, but Turtle Bay is an exception.  This Oahu North Shore Eats Part … [Read more...] about Oahu North Shore Eats Part II

Hawaiian’s New Uniforms & Island Air Bag Fees

November 16, 2016 by Island Miler

Hawaiian's New Uniforms Hawaiian Airlines has been on a bit of a evolution lately.  The airline recently introduced its first lie-flat premium product, its first premium lounge, and is changing up its catering.  They've been rumored to be undertaking a rebranding initiative too, which may include a new livery.  But for now, the next change we'll see on-board our Hawaiian Air … [Read more...] about Hawaiian’s New Uniforms & Island Air Bag Fees

Doubletree Grand Naniloa Now Open

November 11, 2016 by Island Miler

Great news!  The much anticipated Doubletree Grand Naniloa is now open in Hilo, on the Big Island.  It's the first Doubletree on the Big Island, and is the only name brand hotel on the Hilo side of the island.  The Naniloa will undoubtedly be the best hotel in Hilo, too. That being said, the Naniloa is not a new hotel. The Grand Naniloa Hotel was formerly known simply as … [Read more...] about Doubletree Grand Naniloa Now Open

Restaurant Week Hawaii 2016

November 8, 2016 by Island Miler

Anyone that visits (or lives in) Hawaii knows it's an expensive place to be.  Hawaii is, after all, the most isolated islands in the world.  But every year there's an event that offers up great deals for a great cause: Restaurant Week Hawaii 2016. Restaurant Week Hawaii, like elsewhere in the nation has restaurants serving up special menus at reduced prices.  Hawaii's … [Read more...] about Restaurant Week Hawaii 2016

Hawaiian is resuming service to Kapalua

Last week Hawaiian Airlines made an announcement.  The announcement was for a new route, sort of.  Hawaiian is resuming service to Kapalua Airport on Maui. Hawaiian's Kapalua service will be operated by its commuter airline subsidiary, Ohana by Hawaiian.  Flights are scheduled to begin on January 18, 2017, and will be operated by the airline's 48-seat ATR 42-500s. … [Read more...] about Hawaiian is Resuming Service to Kapalua

Hawaii Outdoor Ice Skating

November 3, 2016 by Island Miler

When you think Hawaii, you don't think winter sports.  Things you'd take for granted in colder climates, like ice skating, aren't readily available in the Aloha State.  But Howard Hughes Corp., developer of the Ward Villages project, brought a bit of winter magic to Honolulu last year.  And this year they're repeating that feat again, bringing the only Hawaii Outdoor Ice … [Read more...] about Hawaii Outdoor Ice Skating

The Modern Honolulu and Morimoto

October 31, 2016 by Island Miler

As I reported a couple of weeks ago, the Morimoto Waikiki is closing on December 8, 2016.  The reasons for the closure was, and continues to remain unknown to the public.  But some additional details have recently come to light, and it's interesting.  Especially when you consider the relationship of the overall Modern Honolulu and Morimoto Waikiki. According to the … [Read more...] about The Modern Honolulu and Morimoto

Great Winter Rates at Turtle Bay

October 25, 2016 by Island Miler

Winter is approaching here in Hawaii.  And while we may not have seasons in the traditional sense, we do see seasonal variations.  Winter in Hawaii is rainier and colder than the rest of the year, but still great!  When I say cold, by the way, I mean low 70's... sometimes.  Daytime temperatures are still in the mid-80's, but nighttime lows can get down into the low 70's to high … [Read more...] about Great Winter Rates at Turtle Bay

Oahu Dining Hidden Gems

October 24, 2016 by Island Miler

Hawaii, like many tourist destinations, has a lot of great places to eat, but also a lot of bad ones.  Knowing where to go, however, is only half the battle.  With Hawaii's isolation, price also plays a major factor.  So when you find somewhere that's great, it's awesome.  But when you find a great place and doesn't cost a lot... Score!  Of course the best resource for finding … [Read more...] about Oahu Dining Hidden Gems
