EDIT: Apparently there was another blog called Hungry for Miles, so I’ve changed my name to Island Miler.
Now I’m back, but this time for good. Mr. & Mrs. J were kind enough to invite me on as full-time blogger! My series will be called Hungry for Miles Island Miler, and because of my island roots, will largely focus on travel to Hawaii, relevant news, activities, and more. Of course, I do travel outside of the islands because island fever is a VERY real condition, so I’ll be writing about those adventures as well. I’m also a bit of a foodie, so you can expect to see a lot of restaurant reviews too.
Now my travels are a little different from many others in the points/miles game; I don’t travel for work, I don’t generate enough credit card spend to earn a ton of miles, and I don’t have a ton of disposable income. So instead of writing about traveling in First Class Suites and what not, readers can expect a more frugal approach to travel. That’s not to say I don’t try to fly premium class or stay in luxury hotels as much as possible, it just means that you’ll likely see me writing more about how to more effectively use a limited supply of points/miles.
As far as reward programs go, I primarily participate with Hyatt Gold Passport, Marriott Rewards (see different already), AAdvantage, HawaiianMiles, Alaska Mileage Plan, and a couple of credit card programs. I do have membership with SPG and HHonors too, but am not active with those programs.
Regardless of you travel style, I hope that you’ll find my posts interesting, as like Mr. & Mrs. J, I like to try to do things differently. When traveling, I like to eat what the locals eat, and though I like to see some touristy sites, I do like to try more local types of activities too. In-fact, as a Hawaii local, I’ll talk about things the average visitor to Hawaii may not know about, to give you guys the inside scoops. Got questions about Hawaii? Don’t hesitate to ask! I’m loving your posts, Kyle!:) My dad was born and raised in Kaneohe and I have many family members on the island of Oahu. I live in New York and my husband and I try to visit at least once a year (more if I can get away with it) and love Maui and Molokai as well. I just discovered there is a Courtyard Marriott on the North Shore. We usually stay in Punalu’u or Lai’e and are wondering if you have stayed there or might do a review of it anytime soon? Mahalo for so many great articles. We usually fly Hawaiian Airlines direct from JFK. Looking forward to reading more!
Aloha Roni, so glad you’re loving my posts! ? That’s awesome that you have roots in the islands and visit at least annually! Yes, there is a Courtyard that opened just last year on Oahu’s North Shore, and while I haven’t stayed yet, I will be doing a stay and post in July. I’ll also do a stay and post for Turtle Bay at the same time, so while not an apples-to-apples comparison, will have one.
