There are several routes from San Francisco to the Point Reyes National Seashore, but I sure am glad I took this one. The Nicasio Reservoir of Marin county was nearly empty when we drove past this area August of 2014. Now the water levels look healthy after winter rains, but I'm not sure how long this will last. For this visit the calm water provided a beautiful photo … [Read more...] about Nicasio Reservoir Reflection in Marin County, California

Barn and Fields outside of Healdsburg, California
As we were driving through the northern part of wine country in Sonoma County a few weeks ago, I pulled over the car for a photo opportunity. I am not sure there is a better scene than the beginning of a new wine growing season. Green for miles and miles, with rows of vines to turn the landscape into a grid pattern. Healdsburg seems less traveled than the southern sections … [Read more...] about Barn and Fields outside of Healdsburg, California
Tomales Bay Near Point Reyes, California
If you go to the Tomales Bay Oyster company, make sure that you bring everything but the oysters. I learned that the hard way, as we were caught with no drinks, side dishes or equipment for shucking oysters. Next time I will come more prepared. On the bright side, if you don't eat the oysters you can just explore around Tomales bay, which is not a bad alternative. At low … [Read more...] about Tomales Bay Near Point Reyes, California
View of San Francisco from Twin Peaks
If you are into urban hiking, you will have a hard time finding a better opportunity than climbing up to the top of the Twin Peaks in San Francisco. Start out at ground level and work your way up about 1,000 feet to get this view of the city. The hike takes a couple of hours to complete, but you will have plenty of time to rest while admiring the views below. If you go in … [Read more...] about View of San Francisco from Twin Peaks
Abandoned Shed Along the Point Reyes National Seashore
Last summer Mrs. Jeffsetter and I enjoyed a weekend hike at the Point Reyes National Seashore just northwest of San Francisco. The area reminded me a lot of the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. Beautiful cliffs, raging waters, and lighthouses for boat traffic. While the day was overcast, the redness of this "shed" - at least that is what I am calling it - really … [Read more...] about Abandoned Shed Along the Point Reyes National Seashore
Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park
Death Valley National Park is beautiful. I didn't realize just how beautiful it was until I reached Zabriskie Point. If you are brave enough to leave your car during the high July heat, a photo opportunity is only a short walk away at Zabriskie Point. … [Read more...] about Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park
An Amazing Photo Journey to the Golden Gate Bridge
This past weekend I decided to go a whopping 3 miles from my central San Francisco apartment to hike the coastal trail from Lands End to right near the Golden Gate bridge. I brought my Sony A7R camera along with me for the journey and took hundreds of photos along the way. In the end I was able to take my best photos to date. … [Read more...] about An Amazing Photo Journey to the Golden Gate Bridge
Grapes Ready for Harvest in Sonoma County
I spent much of Labor Day weekend exploring some of the beautiful areas north of San Francisco, experiencing great food, fun hikes and lots of wine along the way. On Sunday we stopped at one of our favorite wineries in Sonoma county and had a library tasting of some of the special wines they had been storing for 10+ years. In between tastings, I took some time to photograph … [Read more...] about Grapes Ready for Harvest in Sonoma County

Redeeming the Annual Hyatt Free Night for Credit Cardholders in San Francisco
I spent the last week in San Francisco with Mrs. Jeffsetter with two objectives in mind for our time in the city: Attend a conference being put on by Google at the Intercontinental hotel (review of hotel to come in the future) - and more importantly To learn as much as we could about the city and find an apartment for our impending move to San Francisco … [Read more...] about Redeeming the Annual Hyatt Free Night for Credit Cardholders in San Francisco
