Localicious 2018 kicks off today with a record number of participating restaurants.
What is Localicious?
Localicious is an initiative of the Hawaii Agricultural Foundation that aims to increase awareness of locally grown and raised products. The program also promotes the expansion of and supports agriculture education programs around the state. After all, Hawaii is the most isolated group of island in the world. So ensuring food security is paramount. Plus, being able to grow and raise our own products in Hawaii will reduce the carbon footprint of the entire state too, while providing fresher, higher quality stuff. It’s really win-win for everyone. And that’s why programs like Localicious are so important, and likely also why Localicious 2018 is the largest to date.

Localicious 2018
Now in its fourth year, Localicious 2018 will feature a record 262 restaurants in its line-up. And, as in years past, each restaurant will offer at least one unique Localicious dish. Each time this dish is ordered during the month of March, the restaurant will then donate $1 to Localicious. This year’s goal is to raise at least $50,000, which shouldn’t be too hard. After all, there’s a record number of participants this year and, to-date, Localicious has been able to raise more than $170,000 for our public schools. That equates to over $56,000 per year on average.

Localicious 2018, Final Thoughts
I’m a big proponent of buying local and dining local, so events like Localicious speak to me. And in years past, I’ve made it a point to participate at least once, which isn’t hard to do. This year will be no different, and I’m happy to see many of my favorite restaurants on this list. That includes the likes of Arancino (all three locations), Azure, Big City Diner, bill’s sydney, Chef Mavro, Chubbies Burgers, Eating House 1849, Hawaiian Pie Co, Koko Head Cafe, Kona Coffe Purveyors, Limon Rotisserie, Nico’s Pier 38, PAI Honolulu, Pieology, Senia, The Pig and The Lady, Town, and Yauatcha, just to name a few. And there are participants on all islands ranging from super casual grab ‘n go options to super luxe dinners.
