Death Valley National Park is beautiful. I didn't realize just how beautiful it was until I reached Zabriskie Point. If you are brave enough to leave your car during the high July heat, a photo opportunity is only a short walk away at Zabriskie Point. … [Read more...] about Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park

Giant Swing at Oktoberfest in Munich
There is no better layover opportunity than Munich during the months of Oktoberfest. You can make it from the airport to the fairgrounds in about 30 minutes and have a beer in your hand within an hour. It's a fun visit for a solo traveler, but I highly recommend bringing a companion to get the most out of the experience. As I was waiting a socially acceptable amount of time … [Read more...] about Giant Swing at Oktoberfest in Munich
An Amazing Photo Journey to the Golden Gate Bridge
This past weekend I decided to go a whopping 3 miles from my central San Francisco apartment to hike the coastal trail from Lands End to right near the Golden Gate bridge. I brought my Sony A7R camera along with me for the journey and took hundreds of photos along the way. In the end I was able to take my best photos to date. … [Read more...] about An Amazing Photo Journey to the Golden Gate Bridge
Grapes Ready for Harvest in Sonoma County
I spent much of Labor Day weekend exploring some of the beautiful areas north of San Francisco, experiencing great food, fun hikes and lots of wine along the way. On Sunday we stopped at one of our favorite wineries in Sonoma county and had a library tasting of some of the special wines they had been storing for 10+ years. In between tastings, I took some time to photograph … [Read more...] about Grapes Ready for Harvest in Sonoma County

Beautiful Bryce Canyon National Park Photos in HDR
My silence lately has had much to do with driving across the country to my new home in San Francisco. While there are many ways to get from Minnesota to the bay area, I chose a route that allowed me to see several of our national parks. While all parks were excellent, I was most excited to see Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. Bryce Canyon is one of the most unique places … [Read more...] about Beautiful Bryce Canyon National Park Photos in HDR
Happy Fourth of July!
In July of 2010 we watched the fireworks from a rooftop of an office building in Washington, DC. The surreal experience was perfect for experimenting with Fireworks photos as the colors decorated the national mall and lit up the monuments. Maybe 1 in every 10 photos turned out, but the ones that worked were pretty amazing. While I'm not sure when I'll be in our nations … [Read more...] about Happy Fourth of July!

Homer Simpson Sand Carving in Viña Del Mar, Chile [Photo of the Week]
It's always fun to see just how far American pop culture can spread throughout the world. Equally fun is seeing which aspects of pop culture are highlighted. During my January, 2010 trip to Chile, we stopped for a night in Viña Del mar and were treated to some awesome sand carvings on the beach. While the Gorilla carving was impressive, my favorite was the Homer Simpson sand … [Read more...] about Homer Simpson Sand Carving in Viña Del Mar, Chile [Photo of the Week]
Redeeming the Annual Hyatt Free Night for Credit Cardholders in San Francisco
